Unterwegs | On the road

For long distances I either take the train or the bus. For short distances there are Rickshaws or you go by foot. And twice I took a ride on a motorbike ... :)

What I saw while traveling? Have a look yourself ... I took nearly all the pictures out of the bus.

Ajanta #1

Ajanta Caves are listed as UNESCO World Heritage. In a 90 minutes bus ride from Aurangabad - my second stop after Mumbai - you arrive at the caves where at first you have to pay a 7 Rupies (2 Kurush) entrance fee to the shopping place you have to cross inevitably. Then another 7 Rupies bus ride leads you to the caves themselves.

Ajanta's caves are situated in a canyon and have been constructed directly into the steep walls.

The caves are more than 2000 years old and have just been discovered a bit more than a hundred years ago.

The paintings in the caves are very sensitive. Flash light is forbidden, therefor special artificial lights have been set up which are less harmfull to the waterbased colours.

The pillars have been hewed directly into the stone.

Einige Eingaenge sind richtig imposante Portale ...

Some entrances are like really impressiv portals ...

... und im Inneren geht es beeindruckend weiter.

... and inside it keeps beeing impressiv.

Ajanta #2 - Skulpturen | sculptures

In nearly every cave there is a Buddha statue. And every cave is decorated with magnificent sculptures.

Ajanta #3 - Wandmalereien | paintings

Einfach grossartig! Diese Bilder sind ueber 2000 Jahre alt!

Ajanta is especially famous for it's well conserved paintings. The colours are well preserved because of the long isolation of the caves and a lot of details are cognoscible. It's just amazing! These paintings are more than 2000 years old!

Ajanta #4 - Impressionen

Here some more pictures of Ajanta.

Auf dem Weg zu den Hoehlen.

On the way to the caves.

Ajanta is an important place for Buddhists. A group of monks also came visiting the caves. Seeing them was very special for me, somehow touched me. The atmosphere changed as if the place suddenly became alive. I just couldn't get rid of that smile in my face (anyhow, why should I?) ... :)

There were young and old monks. One of them even knows somebody from Halle (close to my hometown) and proudly showed me the address. I shared his happiness :).

I visited the caves together with these girls from China and Japan. We met at the youth hostel.

Ein stets hungriger Geselle ... ;)

This fellow seemed to be always hungry ... ;)

Mumbai #1&2 Stadt-Impressionen | impressions of Mumbai

Seht selbst ... :)

Mumbai is multisided. Especially the areas close to the water are forming a pleasing contrast to the bustling crowd inside.
See for yourself ... :)

Mumbai's Skyline ...

Especially in the evening people meet at the water to enjoy the great atmosphere ...

Let's stroll through Mumbai's streets ... :)
