Mumbai #4 Verkehr / traffic

Der Verkehr in Mumbai ist der Hammer. Hier rollen nicht nur Autos, alles bahnt sich seinen Weg: Fussgänger, Taxi-Fahrer, Fahrradfahrer, Busse, Laster, Touristen ;), und diese alten Holztransporte für die ich nicht mal einen Namen weiß ...

Hier jedenfalls ein paar Eindrücke :)

Traffic in Mumbai is just above the limit! There are not only simple cars on the street, but also pedestrians, taxi drivers, cyclists, busses, trucks, tourists ;), and those old carriers made out of wood I not even know the name of ...

Well, get an impression here :)

Mumbai #5 - Essen / food

Die indische Küche ist anders - und das ist ja nicht neu ... ;) Leider gibts keine englischen Übersetzungen und ich tu mir oft schwer, was zu finden. Also frage ich meistens und lass mich überraschen. Ich bin aber auch schon öfter zum Essen eingeladen worden und hab das natürlich ausgenutzt, um ein bisschen was zu lernen :). Aber irgendwie lebe ich trotzdem noch nach dem Prinzip "Try and error" ... ;)

Indian food is different - well, that's not new ... ;) Unfortunately there are no english translations so I am often not sure what to take. Most of the time I simply ask and let me surprise. But I have also been invited for dinner and of course took the chance to learn more about indian food :). But nevertheless I somehow still chose my food by "try and error" ... ;)

Am ersten Abend in Mumbai bin ich in den Oxford bookshop gegangen, ein richtig netter Buchladen mit einem kleinen Cafe innen drin. Die Auswahl an Tee ist einfach der Hammer und dieser Salat war das Beste, was ich bisher an Salaten gegessen habe! Einfach unglaublich fruchtig und frisch.

((Bin grad in einem Internet-Cafe und nebenan reden zwei Franzosen - jetzt wollte ich doch glatt in französisch weiter schreiben ... ;) ))

The first evening in Mumbai I went to Oxford Bookshop, a really nice bookshop wiht a little cafe shop in it. The possible choose of tea is just increadible as was the great taste of this salad - the best I ever ate! Just fresh and fruity.

Das ist ein einfaches aber sehr leckeres vegetarisches Reisgericht, das ich in einem ganz typischen, einfachen Restaurant gegessen habe.

This is a simple but very tasteful vegetarian rice dish I ate in a typical, simple restaurant.

Ein "28-Gänge-Menu" ... Sanjay, der mir einige Tempel von Mumbai gezeigt hat, hat mich hier eingeladen. Ein perfekter Weg um mal verschiedene Speisen auszuprobieren - wenn man möchte, gibt es auch immer wieder Nachschlag. Gegessen wird übrigens mit den Händen ...

Mumbai #6 - Crawford Markt / crawford market

Hiermit lade ich euch zu einem Spaziergang über den Crawford Markt ein! Wuselig, manchmal laut, manchmal ruhig, eine nette geschäftige Atmospähre. Aber der Fleischer-Markt ist nur was für Hartgesottene ...

Mumbai #7 - Menschen / people

Dies sind ein paar von den Menschen, die entweder ich um ein Foto gebeten hab oder die mich um ein Foto von sich gebeten haben, auch wenn keiner von ihnen eine email-Adresse besitzt, an die man die Fotos schicken könnte ...

Mumbai #8 - Mahatma Gandhi Museum

Wenn er in Mumbai war, hat Mahatma Gandhi in einem Gebäude gewohnt, in dem heute auch das Mahatma-Gandhi-Museum untergebracht ist. Die kleine Austellung ist kurzweilig, aber manchmal hätte ich mir etwas mehr Informationen gewünscht. Es wurden oft Ereignisse genannt, Orte und Daten, aber nie gesagt, was genau sich da ereignet hat. Sehr wahrscheinlich hätte ich mir die Informationa aber aus der umfangreichen Bibliothek im Erdgeschoss auch selbst anlesen können ... ;)

Vielleicht ist das aber auch alles nicht so wichtig, viel eindrücklicher als "harte Fakten" fand ich die besondere Atmosphäre in diesem Haus. Alles atmet Gandhi - anders kann ich es nicht beschreiben ...

While visiting Mumbai Mahatma Gandhi lived in a building that nowadays contains the Mahatma-Gandhi museum. The little exposition is diverting, but sometimes some more information would have been nice. Events, places and dates where often mentioned without a note what exactly happened. Presumably I could have gotten all information in the well equipped library at the ground floor ... ;)

But maybe all this is not that important. Much more impressive was the special atmosphere in this building. Everything breathes the spirit of Gandhi - I don't know how to describe it othewise ...

Mahatma Gandhis Büste steht gleich im Erdgeschoss. Daneben hängen Infotafeln und wenn man dort steht und dieses Gesicht auf Augenhöhe sieht - Wow, irgendwie ist das ein eigenartiges Gefühl ...

Mumbai #9 Tempel / temples

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich Sanjay kennengelernt. Sanjay scheint eine Menge Geld und Zeit zu haben und darüber hinaus ein unglaubliches Wissen über Land und Leute und besonders die Tempel in Mumbai. Er hatte angeboten, mir an einem Samstag mal ein paar Tempel zu zeigen. Im Mumbaier Straßenverkehrs-Getümmel haben wir es nur zu drei Tempeln und dann zum Mittagessen geschafft, aber es war ein toller Einblick in diese spirituelle Welt. In einem der Tempel sind wir etwas länger geblieben und haben uns mit einem jungen Mönch aus Kanada unterhalten. Ich bin am nächsten Tag mit den zwei Weltreisenden aus Sachsen nochmal hin, um ein Gebet mit Gesang und Tanz zu sehen. Bevor es losging, wurden wir aber von demselben kanadischen Mönch zum gemeinsamen Abendessen eingeladen und naja, was soll ich sagen: Wir haben unseren weltlich knurrenden Mägen nachgegeben ... ;). Für die spirituelle Nahrung sorgte unser Gastgeber dennoch mit interessanten Einblicken in sein Denken und Leben während des Essens.

A few days ago I met Sanjay. Sanjay seems to have a lot of money and time. But more important he also has an uncredible knowledge about India and it’s people and especially about the temples in Mumbai. He offered to lead me to some temples one Saturday. Due to Mumbai’s traffic we only made it to three of them and then rushed to lunch, but it was a great first insight into this spiritual world. We stayed a bit longer in one temple and talked to a young monk from Canada. The next day I went there again with the two saxon world travelers to see a prayer with singing and dancing. Anyhow, before it started we were invited by the same young monk to share dinner and well, what shall I write: We gave in our banousic growling stomaches ... ;). Nevertheless, our kind host cared for our spiritual hunger with an interesting insight in his thinking and life during dinner.

Ob mans glaubt oder nicht: Als Ausländer ist man hier tatsächlich etwas ganz geheimnisvolles und viele fragen nach Fotos. Stefan und David sind mit ihren orangfarbenen indischen Shirts, Stefan mit Turban und David mit langen blonden Haaren natürlich besonders aufgefallen ... ;)

Believe it or not: As a foreigner you really are some mysterious something here and many people ask to get a picture together with you. David and Stefan with their orange coloured indian shirts, Stafen's Turban and David's long blond haircaught especi ally attention ... ;)
